Lower Scott's Flat Rainbows from the "Monday" ladies fishouts
Katie and I fished until about 1pm on Tuesday August 9 and we caught rainbows and browns. The shots below are of some of my rainbows. Katie caught several but she was out of camera range. Sheep's Creek Special was the effective fly on both intermediate and sink-tip lines. On Monday I fished Lower Scotts alone and caught about 10 fish- a mix of rainbow and browns. Used floating line, long leader and a prince nymph with callibaetis dropper and both flies worked. The sheep's creek was effective on intermediate line. Water temps 55 early to 60 mid day. On Monday, I caught a huge fat 16" brown on the callibaetis and it took a while to land. Excited, I drew out camera to take photo before returning him to the water! Then I pulled a dumb trick. Not wanting to get the camera on my wrist near his thrashing body, I picked him up out of net by the oh -so- fine 5x tippet. Of course, he gave a wild jump, snapped the tippet clean off and swam away with the fly still in his mouth. No photo, but a lesson I won't soon forget!! Ah, the perils of solitary photography.
