Updates - Fishouts January and February 2012

The GCFF Fish Outs are fishing opportunities to enable all members to experience our local and Northern California fly fishing destinations and meet new fly fishing friends. The GCFF Fish Outs are open to all members. To insure this, the GCFF Board has requested that if an outing is limited to a maximum number of participants and if there are more signees than the outing can handle, a lottery will be held to determine the members than will attend. The GCFF goal is to provide opportunities to all of its members.

Lower Yuba River, December 17th, 2011 - Write up by Fish Out Leader Mike Connor

Eighteen GCFF members enjoyed a fish out on the Lower Yuba on December 17. Access was gained through University of California property. The river was flowing at about 950 cfs, so many parts of the river were accessible.

Fishing has been challenging on the Yuba lately, and it was no different on Saturday, but there were fish caught. Don Lilgeblad, Ed Tom, and Larry Uno went upstream and picked up three nice rainbows/steelhead. Some nice fish were also caught in the picnic table--foundation hole area.

It was a beautiful day, but cool enough that we sat in the sun while enjoying a great hot lunch cooked by
Len Valente. It was a good opportunity to socialize and share fishing tips. Club fish outs provide excellent opportunities to improve your fishing skills.

Feather River Steelhead - Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Where: The Feather River in Oroville. Low Flow Section

What to Expect: The Feather River is known for its steelhead. January should be a great time to explore this river that is so close to home. We will explore the Low Flow section for steelhead. The Fish Out will start with a short techniques clinic to make sure you're rigged and ready to fish.

Pyramid Lake - Date February 15th , 2012

The Pyramid Lake Fish Out has been changed from February 22nd to February 15th to avoid the Pyramid Lake Fish Derby.

What to expect: Pyramid is know for its large Lahontan Cutthroats. This is a popular event so sign up early.

Clinics, Casting Workshops and Fly Tying

GCFF is ramping up its clinics, casting and fly tying programs for 2012. These programs will be structured for all levels of experience. No one is excluded, everyone is invited.

Casting Clinics - January 12th and 21st and February 9th and 25th

The GCFF Clinicians will provide monthly fly casting workshops for its members in 2012. There will be two classes a month, one for beginning to intermediate levels and one for intermediate to advanced levels. The workshops will be held at Sycamore Ranch County Park and hosted by GCFF Clinicians. This will be a great opportunity to learn to cast and for the more experiened, learn new techniques or fix bad habits. We've all got them!

Lower Yuba Techniques Clinic - Swinging and Indicator Nymphing for for Trout and Steelhead

This clinic will focus on swinging and indicator fishing techniques for trout and steelhead on the Lower Yuba River. You can take these skills to many Northern California waters.
